1100 Aluminum Alloy
1100 is commercially pure aluminum with a 99.00% minimum and a small copper addition of 0.05–0.20%. That copper makes it marginally stronger than 1050 while keeping most of the conductivity, which is why it turns up in spun holloware, heat exchangers and general sheet metal.

Chemistry
1100 Chemical Composition Limits
Percent by weight. These are the registered limits, not a typical analysis — a heat that sits anywhere inside them is still 1100.
| Element | Limit (% wt) | Element | Limit (% wt) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Si + Fe | 0.95 max | Cu | 0.05 – 0.20 |
| Mn | 0.05 max | Mg | — |
| Cr | — | Zn | 0.10 max |
| Ti | — | Other, each | 0.05 max |
| Other, total | 0.15 max | Al | 99.00 min |
Composition limits are the Aluminum Association registered ranges, which is what ASTM B209 and EN 573-3 both refer back to. Mechanical values are typical for the temper shown, not acceptance minima — the minima are set by the product standard, and the mill certificate reports the measured values for your heat.

Typical Mechanical Properties by Temper
Room temperature, longitudinal direction. Use these to compare grades and tempers — the acceptance figures for your order come from the product standard and are reported on the mill certificate for the actual heat.
| Temper | Tensile (MPa) | Yield (MPa) | Elongation (%) | Thermal conductivity (W/m·K) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| H14 | 130 | 110 | 8.2 | 220 |
Other tempers in the 1100 range — O · H12 · H14 · H16 · H18 · H22 · H24 — are available to order. Values for those are quoted with the offer rather than assumed from this table.
Forms
1100 in the Forms We Supply
The same alloy behaves differently as coil, plate and extrusion because the rolling or extrusion route sets the temper and the surface. Pick the form first, then the temper.
Aluminum Sheet & Plate
Rolled flat product from 0.2 mm foil stock to 200 mm plate.

Aluminum Coil

Aluminum Strip
Slit coil with controlled edge burr and camber.
0.1 – 3.0 mm · 10 – 1,600 mm
Aluminum Circle & Disc
Blanks for deep drawing into cookware and lamp shades.
0.3 – 6.0 mm · Ø 100 – 1,200 mm

Where it is used
Typical End Uses for 1100
Cookware & Deep Drawing
Deep drawing is a ductility test. Purity and O-temper control decide whether the blank draws or tears.
Electronics & Heat Management
Heat sinks are an extrusion geometry problem: fin height, fin pitch and flatness tolerance. 6063-T5 holds fine fins that 6061 cannot.
Building & Curtain Wall
Facade work is a coating problem first and a metal problem second. PVDF film thickness and anodizing class are what the specifier checks.
Selection
Choose 1100 When — and When Not To
Choose 1100 when
Spinning, shallow drawing, heat-exchanger fin and general fabrication where you want a little more strength than 1050 without leaving the pure-aluminum family.
Think again if
Salt-water service — the copper addition is enough to hurt marine corrosion resistance. 5052 handles that environment at a similar price.
Before you ask
1100 — Questions Buyers Ask
Why does 1100 contain copper if it is called pure?
It is commercially pure, not chemically pure. Up to 0.20% copper is permitted because it improves strength and spinning behaviour; the 99.00% aluminum minimum still defines the grade.
Is 1100 suitable for anodizing?
Yes, though the copper content dulls the film slightly compared with 1050 or 1060. For bright decorative anodizing use 1050 or 5657; for protective anodizing 1100 is fine.
Can 1100 replace 3003?
Only where strength does not matter. 3003 carries roughly 1.0–1.5% manganese and is about 20% stronger at the same temper, at a similar price, so most fabricators default to 3003 once the part has any structural duty.
