1060 Aluminum Alloy
1060 is commercially pure aluminum with a 99.60% minimum. It sits half a step above 1050 on purity and is the usual choice for foil, capacitor stock and deep-drawn parts where conductivity and a clean surface matter more than any mechanical property.

Chemistry
1060 Chemical Composition Limits
Percent by weight. These are the registered limits, not a typical analysis — a heat that sits anywhere inside them is still 1060.
| Element | Limit (% wt) | Element | Limit (% wt) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Si | 0.25 max | Fe | 0.35 max |
| Cu | 0.05 max | Mn | 0.03 max |
| Mg | 0.03 max | Cr | — |
| Zn | 0.05 max | Ti | 0.03 max |
| V | 0.05 max | Other, each | 0.03 max |
| Other, total | 0.10 max | Al | 99.60 min |
Composition limits are the Aluminum Association registered ranges, which is what ASTM B209 and EN 573-3 both refer back to. Mechanical values are typical for the temper shown, not acceptance minima — the minima are set by the product standard, and the mill certificate reports the measured values for your heat.
Mechanicals
Typical Mechanical Properties by Temper
Room temperature, longitudinal direction. Use these to compare grades and tempers — the acceptance figures for your order come from the product standard and are reported on the mill certificate for the actual heat.
| Temper | Tensile (MPa) | Yield (MPa) | Elongation (%) | Thermal conductivity (W/m·K) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| O | 72 | 21 | 30 | 230 |
Other tempers in the 1060 range — O · H14 · H16 · H18 · H22 · H24 — are available to order. Values for those are quoted with the offer rather than assumed from this table.
Forms
1060 in the Forms We Supply
The same alloy behaves differently as coil, plate and extrusion because the rolling or extrusion route sets the temper and the surface. Pick the form first, then the temper.
Aluminum Foil
Household, container, pharmaceutical and capacitor foil.

Aluminum Strip
Slit coil with controlled edge burr and camber.

Aluminum Coil
Continuously cast or hot-rolled coil for roll forming and stamping.

Aluminum Sheet & Plate
Rolled flat product from 0.2 mm foil stock to 200 mm plate.

Aluminum Circle & Disc
Blanks for deep drawing into cookware and lamp shades.

Where it is used
Typical End Uses for 1060
Packaging & Foil
Pinhole count, elongation and surface cleanliness are the three numbers that decide whether a foil runs on your line.
Cookware & Deep Drawing
Deep drawing is a ductility test. Purity and O-temper control decide whether the blank draws or tears.
Electronics & Heat Management
Heat sinks are an extrusion geometry problem: fin height, fin pitch and flatness tolerance. 6063-T5 holds fine fins that 6061 cannot.
Selection
Choose 1060 When — and When Not To
Choose 1060 when
Foil and light strip. 1060 is what runs on a foil mill without pinholes opening up, and it is the grade most often quoted for household foil, cable wrap and capacitor stock.
Think again if
Load-bearing parts, and any specification that names 1050 — the two are close but not interchangeable on a certificate. For structural sheet go to 3003 or 5052.
Before you ask
1060 — Questions Buyers Ask
Is 1060 food-safe for foil?
Aluminum foil for food contact is normally supplied with a food-contact declaration rather than a special alloy. Ask for the declaration with the order; the grade itself, 1060 or 8011, is not what decides compliance.
What is the difference between 1060 and 1100?
Purity and copper. 1060 guarantees 99.60% Al and caps copper at 0.05%; 1100 guarantees 99.00% and allows 0.05–0.20% copper, which makes it slightly stronger and slightly less conductive.
Can 1060 be used for deep drawing?
Yes, in O temper, and that is its main non-foil use. Elongation runs around 30%, so it draws further than 1100 before it tears. The limit is usually surface quality and earring rather than ductility.
