1050 Aluminum Alloy
1050 is commercially pure aluminum with a minimum of 99.5% Al. It is soft, highly conductive and takes deep drawing, spinning and anodizing well. It is the right grade when the part has to conduct, reflect or form, and the wrong grade the moment the part has to carry structural load.

Chemistry
1050 Chemical Composition Limits
Percent by weight. These are the registered limits, not a typical analysis — a heat that sits anywhere inside them is still 1050.
| Element | Limit (% wt) | Element | Limit (% wt) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Si | 0.25 max | Fe | 0.40 max |
| Cu | 0.05 max | Mn | 0.05 max |
| Mg | 0.05 max | Cr | — |
| Zn | 0.05 max | Ti | 0.03 max |
| Other, each | 0.03 max | Other, total | 0.10 max |
| Al | 99.50 min |
Composition limits are the Aluminum Association registered ranges, which is what ASTM B209 and EN 573-3 both refer back to. Mechanical values are typical for the temper shown, not acceptance minima — the minima are set by the product standard, and the mill certificate reports the measured values for your heat.

Typical Mechanical Properties by Temper
Room temperature, longitudinal direction. Use these to compare grades and tempers — the acceptance figures for your order come from the product standard and are reported on the mill certificate for the actual heat.
| Temper | Tensile (MPa) | Yield (MPa) | Elongation (%) | Thermal conductivity (W/m·K) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| O | 76 | 25 | 37 | 230 |

Forms
1050 in the Forms We Supply
The same alloy behaves differently as coil, plate and extrusion because the rolling or extrusion route sets the temper and the surface. Pick the form first, then the temper.
Aluminum Sheet & Plate
Rolled flat product from 0.2 mm foil stock to 200 mm plate.
0.2 – 200 mm · 600 – 2,200 mm
Aluminum Coil
Continuously cast or hot-rolled coil for roll forming and stamping.

Aluminum Strip
Slit coil with controlled edge burr and camber.
0.1 – 3.0 mm · 10 – 1,600 mm
Aluminum Circle & Disc
Blanks for deep drawing into cookware and lamp shades.
0.3 – 6.0 mm · Ø 100 – 1,200 mm
Mirror Finish Aluminum Sheet

Where it is used
Typical End Uses for 1050
Cookware & Deep Drawing
Deep drawing is a ductility test. Purity and O-temper control decide whether the blank draws or tears.
Electronics & Heat Management
Heat sinks are an extrusion geometry problem: fin height, fin pitch and flatness tolerance. 6063-T5 holds fine fins that 6061 cannot.
Packaging & Foil
Pinhole count, elongation and surface cleanliness are the three numbers that decide whether a foil runs on your line.
Selection
Choose 1050 When — and When Not To
Choose 1050 when
The part conducts, reflects or draws. Busbar and heat-transfer fins, cookware blanks, reflector sheet and signage all sit comfortably here, and the grade anodizes to a clean bright finish.
Think again if
Anything structural. At O temper the yield is around 25 MPa — a hand-force bend will deform it. Move to 3003 for a little strength, or 5052 when the part also sees salt water.
Before you ask
1050 — Questions Buyers Ask
Is 1050 or 1060 the better buy?
Only the purity differs: 1050 guarantees 99.50% minimum, 1060 guarantees 99.60%. If your drawing or standard calls out 1060, 1050 does not substitute for it on paper even though the two behave almost identically on the shop floor.
Can 1050 be welded?
Yes, by TIG or MIG with a 1100 or 4043 filler. Joint efficiency is low because the grade is not heat-treatable and gains nothing from the weld thermal cycle, so design the joint for the annealed strength rather than the parent-metal strength.
Does 1050 anodize well?
It is one of the cleanest grades to anodize — low iron and silicon mean the film stays clear rather than going grey. For a bright decorative finish, specify the surface quality on the purchase order; the anodizer can only work with what the mill delivered.
What thicknesses are normally stocked?
Sheet from 0.5 mm to 6 mm and plate to 200 mm, in widths up to 2,200 mm. Circle blanks for cookware are usually cut from 1.0–4.0 mm coil. Tell us the finished part and we will say which line it comes off.
