3105 Aluminum Alloy
3105 sits between 3003 and 3004: manganese for strength, a little magnesium for stiffness, and tighter limits on copper and iron. It is a roofing and cladding grade, usually supplied pre-painted, and it is chosen where a panel has to span further than 3003 allows without going to 5052 prices.

Chemistry
3105 Chemical Composition Limits
Percent by weight. These are the registered limits, not a typical analysis — a heat that sits anywhere inside them is still 3105.
| Element | Limit (% wt) | Element | Limit (% wt) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Si | 0.6 max | Fe | 0.7 max |
| Cu | 0.20 max | Mn | 0.30 – 0.8 |
| Mg | 0.20 – 0.8 | Cr | 0.20 max |
| Zn | 0.40 max | Ti | 0.10 max |
| Other, each | 0.05 max | Other, total | 0.15 max |
| Al | Remainder |
Composition limits are the Aluminum Association registered ranges, which is what ASTM B209 and EN 573-3 both refer back to. Mechanical values are typical for the temper shown, not acceptance minima — the minima are set by the product standard, and the mill certificate reports the measured values for your heat.

Typical Mechanical Properties by Temper
Room temperature, longitudinal direction. Use these to compare grades and tempers — the acceptance figures for your order come from the product standard and are reported on the mill certificate for the actual heat.
| Temper | Tensile (MPa) | Yield (MPa) | Elongation (%) | Thermal conductivity (W/m·K) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| H24 | 170 | 140 | 5.6 | 170 |
Other tempers in the 3105 range — O · H22 · H24 · H26 · H28 — are available to order. Values for those are quoted with the offer rather than assumed from this table.
Forms
3105 in the Forms We Supply
The same alloy behaves differently as coil, plate and extrusion because the rolling or extrusion route sets the temper and the surface. Pick the form first, then the temper.
Color Coated Aluminum
Coil or sheet pre-painted with PVDF, PE or epoxy.

Aluminum Coil
Continuously cast or hot-rolled coil for roll forming and stamping.
0.2 – 8.0 mm · 600 – 2,200 mm
Aluminum Sheet & Plate
Rolled flat product from 0.2 mm foil stock to 200 mm plate.

Corrugated Aluminum Sheet
Roll-formed roofing and cladding profiles.
0.3 – 1.2 mm · Cover width 750 – 1,000 mm
Where it is used
Typical End Uses for 3105
Building & Curtain Wall
Facade work is a coating problem first and a metal problem second. PVDF film thickness and anodizing class are what the specifier checks.
Transport & Automotive
Weight reduction per body panel is the entire business case. Formability and weldability decide the grade.
Selection
Choose 3105 When — and When Not To
Choose 3105 when
Pre-painted roofing and wall cladding, gutter and fascia, and light structural panels where the coil goes straight onto a roll former.
Think again if
Deep drawing or severe bending after coating — the paint cracks before the metal does. Bend radius has to be agreed with the coater, not assumed.
Before you ask
3105 — Questions Buyers Ask
3105 or 3003 for roofing coil?
3105 gives slightly higher strength at the same gauge, so it spans further on standing-seam profiles. 3003 is cheaper and perfectly adequate on short spans. Ask for both prices at your gauge before deciding.
Which coating goes on 3105?
Polyester for general roofing, PVDF (70% Kynar) for facades and anything with a colour warranty. Film build is normally 20–25 µm for polyester and 25–28 µm for PVDF on a primer.
Does 3105 need a primer?
For exterior service, yes — a conversion coating plus primer before the top coat. Skipping the primer is the usual reason a two-year-old roof chalks.
