8011 Aluminum Alloy
8011 is an aluminum-iron-silicon alloy built for foil. The iron and silicon form fine dispersoids that resist tearing and pinhole formation when the strip is rolled down to 0.006–0.20 mm, which is why it is the default grade for household wrap, pharmaceutical blister and container foil.

8011 Chemical Composition Limits
Percent by weight. These are the registered limits, not a typical analysis — a heat that sits anywhere inside them is still 8011.
| Element | Limit (% wt) | Element | Limit (% wt) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Si | 0.50 – 0.90 | Fe | 0.60 – 1.00 |
| Cu | 0.10 max | Mn | 0.20 max |
| Mg | 0.05 max | Cr | 0.05 max |
| Zn | 0.10 max | Ti | 0.08 max |
| Other, each | 0.05 max | Other, total | 0.15 max |
| Al | Remainder |
Composition limits are the Aluminum Association registered ranges, which is what ASTM B209 and EN 573-3 both refer back to. Mechanical values are typical for the temper shown, not acceptance minima — the minima are set by the product standard, and the mill certificate reports the measured values for your heat.

Typical Mechanical Properties by Temper
Room temperature, longitudinal direction. Use these to compare grades and tempers — the acceptance figures for your order come from the product standard and are reported on the mill certificate for the actual heat.
| Temper | Tensile (MPa) | Yield (MPa) | Elongation (%) | Thermal conductivity (W/m·K) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| O | 100 | 45 | 25 | 200 |
| H18 | 180 | 160 | 3 | 200 |
Other tempers in the 8011 range — O · H14 · H16 · H18 · H22 · H24 — are available to order. Values for those are quoted with the offer rather than assumed from this table.
Forms
8011 in the Forms We Supply
The same alloy behaves differently as coil, plate and extrusion because the rolling or extrusion route sets the temper and the surface. Pick the form first, then the temper.

Where it is used
Typical End Uses for 8011
Packaging & Foil
Pinhole count, elongation and surface cleanliness are the three numbers that decide whether a foil runs on your line.
Electronics & Heat Management
Heat sinks are an extrusion geometry problem: fin height, fin pitch and flatness tolerance. 6063-T5 holds fine fins that 6061 cannot.
Cookware & Deep Drawing
Deep drawing is a ductility test. Purity and O-temper control decide whether the blank draws or tears.
Selection
Choose 8011 When — and When Not To
Choose 8011 when
Foil that has to roll thin without pinholes and then hold a heat-seal or deep draw — household wrap, pharma blister lidding, container and lid stock, and air-conditioner fin stock.
Think again if
Structural or load-bearing parts — foil alloys have no strength budget. Also, where food-contact compliance is the driver, the declaration matters more than the grade; ask for it with the order.
Before you ask
8011 — Questions Buyers Ask
8011 or 1235 for foil?
8011 when the foil has to resist tearing and hold a heat-seal; 1235 when it has to be drawn or laminated and pinhole resistance comes second to purity. 8011 carries iron and silicon for strength, 1235 is 99.35% pure for formability and conductivity.
What thickness does 8011 come in?
Normally 0.006–0.20 mm as foil, with 0.08–0.20 mm common for air-conditioner fin stock and container sheet. State the gauge, temper and whether it is single or double-zero foil on the enquiry.
Is 8011 food-safe?
The alloy is used for food contact, but compliance comes from the food-contact declaration and any coating, not from the alloy designation alone. Specify the end use and ask for the declaration.
