Aluminium Supply to UAE

Standards, ports, documentation practice and the mistakes that cost time on aluminium into United Arab Emirates.

What this page is not

This page describes standards, ports and documentation practice. It is not a claim of shipment history or of volume to this market — our published figures are only the ones we can evidence.

Standards

Which standard the drawing cites

UAE projects commonly specify to a mix of ASTM, BS EN and local authority requirements, and the governing standard is often set by the consultant rather than by the country. Curtain wall and cladding work is frequently specified against AAMA or Qualanod-aligned coating requirements for architectural finishes.

Logistics

Ports and transit

Jebel Ali handles the great majority of containerised cargo and serves as the regional hub for onward movement across the Gulf. Transit from Chinese ports is among the shorter long-haul routes.

Handling

Packing and service conditions

High ambient temperature and high humidity make service and storage conditions a genuine design input: coating selection, thermal movement allowances and packing all respond to it. Condensation inside packing during discharge is a live risk in Gulf conditions, so desiccant and wrapping deserve specific attention.

Specification

Grades usually called for

6063 extrusion dominates architectural volumes — curtain wall, window systems and shading. Aluminium composite panel is a major cladding product, and fire performance classification is the specification line that decides acceptance. 3003 and 3105 coil serve roofing and cladding; 1100 and 1050 appear in general fabrication.

Documentation

Certificates and compliance

Fire performance documentation for composite panel is the critical item: the classification required is set by the project and the authority having jurisdiction, and it must be evidenced by a test report rather than asserted. For coated aluminium, film build and coating system should be evidenced against the cited specification. Timber packaging must comply with ISPM 15.

Cost of getting it wrong

Four things that go wrong here

1

Treating composite panel as a commodity product. Fire classification is the acceptance gate and it must be evidenced.

2

Specifying a coating system by trade name without naming film build and test standard.

3

Underestimating condensation risk on discharge in Gulf humidity.

4

Assuming a single standard governs. Ask the consultant which one, in writing.

Send us the drawing

If you tell us which standard the drawing cites, we will say whether the quoted mill works to that table and whether the tolerance can be held — before you commit, not on the inspection report.

Trade measures and marking requirements change. We do not publish rates for that reason — we confirm the current position at quotation.
